18 March Victory and the Spirit of Canakkale

A conference titled "18 March Victory and the Spirit of Canakkale" was held at Kütahya Dumlupınar University.

The event organized by our University's Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Research Center in the Germiyanoğlu Yakup Bey Hall of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was attended by our Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Prof. Bülent Zeybek, our academic and administrative staff and our students.

The speaker of the conference, Prof. Dr. Volkan Marttin, explained the historical process of the Canakkale Victory and said, "When we say Canakkale, three concepts come to mind: Homeland, faith and resurrection. If these three concepts did not exist in our nation, Canakkale would not have been won."

Stating that the war left dozens of heroic stories to the Turkish nation, Prof. Dr. Marttin touched on the roles played by Sergeant Mehmet of Biga, Corporal Seyit, Mahmut Sabri Bey and the Nusrat Mine Ship in the war and brought the subject to Mustafa Kemal [ATATÜRK] Bey's influence on the Gallipoli Campaing. Marttin, who said that Mustafa Kemal's words "I do not order you to attack, I order you to die" changed the course of not only the war but also the history, talked about the story of the poem Dur Yolcu written by Necmettin Halil Onan in the last part of his speech.

At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Bülent Zeybek presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Volkan Marttin for his speech.
